Long or Short Episodes: What really matters?

Listen,  there is no magic number when it comes to the length of a podcast episode. If you’re thinking that having a too short or too long podcast episode will not work or people will not listen to it, that is not true. Whatever the duration of your podcast episode is, post it! At the beginning of your podcasting journey, you realize that your podcasts episodes are shorter, just because you’re still getting used to this, you’re recording and you’re looking at the screen, and there are a lot of new things that you need to learn and that’s fine, it does get easier with time.

Your episode should be as long as it should be. So how long does it take for you to show up in front of the mic and say your message and then leave, we don’t need to sit here and talk for hours and hours.

The Ideal Podcast Episode Length

The sweet spot for an episode is 15 to 20 minutes. The reason for that is you can count on somebody listening to you for the entire duration of that show.

Let’s say if you have an episode that is 45 minutes long, your audience might not listen to you in one sitting. But if you have an episode that is 15 to 20 minutes long and, if it’s a 10-minute-long podcast, you can just count that people are just going to listen to you for the whole duration of your episode because it’s such a small task and a small commitment.

Another thing to keep in mind is that people who listen to podcasts, they’re being intentional about multitasking, which is why it’s a smart idea to keep her episodes within the 15 to 20 minutes length.

The Key to a Successful Podcast Episode

1. Think about your customer avatar and what their schedule looks like. How much time do they have to listen in
2. Speak from the heart and be straightforward. There’s no need to add “fluff” to an episode if it adds zero value to your customer base.
3. Be consistent, and always be yourself. Your people will find you.
