I started my podcast around May 2020, but I don’t remember the exact date. In the beginning, I focused mostly on Etsy and Amazon, since those were the e-commerce stores where I got my start as an online entrepreneur. But to be honest, my first ten episodes or so were pretty bland and vanilla. I was so afraid to really own my gifts that I kept my content very light, good enough for everybody but not really great for anyone.
It wasn’t until I really started to own my skills and speak from the heart that my podcast began to take off. The number one tip I can give you for growing your podcast is, to be honest, vulnerable, and true to yourself. If you’re just starting out and feeling overwhelmed or scared, know that those negative thoughts will eventually go away if you stick with it and learn to love yourself a little bit more.
The second thing I did to grow my podcast was to focus on sharing my experiences and not worrying too much about what everyone else was doing. I wanted to stay true to my own methods and not let other people’s approaches dilute my message. I didn’t script my episodes either – I found that speaking from the heart and being genuine made for much better content.
Leveraging SEO was also crucial for me in growing my podcast. While podcast analytics are somewhat limited compared to other platforms, good old-fashioned SEO can still make a huge difference. Consistency was key too – I made sure to show up at least once a week, and my listeners knew they could expect me to be there for them.
The key to my success was simply staying committed and patient. I didn’t quit when my podcast didn’t take off right away. Instead, I put my head down and worked, trusting that the right people would eventually find me. And they did – I started getting clients just a month and a half after starting my podcast. Since then, I’ve grown my business into a successful podcast management agency, and I continue to leverage my podcast to get clients and network with amazing people.
If you’re thinking about starting a podcast but feeling scared or overwhelmed, just remember that the journey on the other side is beautiful. You may face fears and doubts, but if you can turn that anxiety into excitement, amazing things can happen. Believe in yourself, stay committed, and keep showing up authentically – you never know what kind of magic might be waiting for you on the other side!
